Patricia Hawkes worked in Medical Research in London then emigrated to Canada and traveled, taking on work such as night school teacher, cowgirl, keeper on a wildlife reservation; she returned to England to try contemplative life, first in a convent and then as a hermit on Wales's Bardsey Island; now a Senior she lives as a lay contemplative on Vancouver Island.
