Laura Jan Shore says of poetry: "Reading a poem aloud entrains the heartbeats of strangers and I want to be part of this communion. Born in the UK, raised in the US, I immigrated to NSW, Australia in 1996 and am a self-ordained poetry evangelist, raising poetry consciousness where ever I travel. My poetry collections include Breathworks, Dangerously Poetic Press, 2002 and Water over Stone, winner of IP Picks Best Poetry 2011, Interactive Press, Brisbane. My poems have appeared in literary magazines and anthologies in the US,UK, Italy, India, China, New Zealand and Australia."

From her website:

Born in the UK of American parents, I learnt to climb stairs on the ocean liner to the States. From Minneapolis to Laramie to Chicago to New York, I moved frequently as a child and have never stayed in one home for more than ten years.

While raising two sons, I taught composition, literature and poetry at several colleges as well as offering creative writing courses privately since 1980 which I continue to enjoy today.

My YA novel, The Sacred Moon Tree, Bradbury Press, NY, 1986, was nominated for the Washington Irving Children's Book Award. My poetry has appeared in literary magazines and anthologies in the US, New Zealand, Italy, Singapore, India and Australia.

In 1996, I immigrated to the Byron shire where I initiated the Dangerously Poetic reading series. This evolved into a community press (www.dangerouslypoetic.com) which has published twelve books. My collection, Breathworks, was launched at the Byron Writers Festival in 2002 by Dorothy Porter and again at the 2002 Sydney Poetry Festival by Ron Pretty.

Winner of the 2012 Martha Richardson Poetry Prize, the 2009 FAW John Shaw Nielson Award and the 2006 CJ Dennis “Open Poetry” Literary Award, I was chosen by the Poet's Union for the 2003 Poets on Wheels Tour, which I count as a poetry highlight. My poems have twice been broadcast on Radio National's Poetica. Readings have included Poetica, on Radio National, The Brett Whitely reading series, the Hudson Valley Writer's Centre in NY, Perth Poetry Club, Sydney Writers Festival and Queensland Poetry Festival among many others.

Water over Stone, my latest collection won IP PICKS BEST POETRY 2011 and was published by Interactive Press, Brisbane in October. See launch on utube.

Since arriving in the Byron shire,I've moved four times— savouring the rainforest, the hinterlands and the beach. I love yoga, singing in choir and ecstatic dancing. In future, I plan to travel, reading poetry, writing and offering workshops where ever I go.
