Frithjof Schuon is German by birth and Swiss by nationality and lived many years in France. He is a well-respected European mystic and philosopher of a universalist form of Sufism that has been called the Perennial Philosophy.

Most of his major philosophical works have been written in French and translated into other languages, though he has written some poems directly in English.
